My niece put a call out to all her fellow parents at Lake Country School and the response was astounding. On Saturday we delivered a van load and car load of stuff to Marilyn the new mother of seven kids. I was overwhelmed by the stuff coming through the door and Marilyn was humble, speechless and in tears. Salem Lutheran Church donated a Christmas Tree and two other people donated lights, a tree skirt and ornaments. We got a case of Spaghetti sauce, spaghetti noodles, cereal and a bunch of other stuff. Some people donated gift cards from K-Mart and Target.
The effort has taken a new direction. Lake Country School agreed to sell their van for a HUGE discount to my niece so we could give Marilyn a van to get to work and haul all those kids around. My computer savvy nephew has set up a web-site with a picture of the van and a link for people to contribute if they wish. We are trying to recapture the cost of the van plus raise enough money to pay for insurance and a car seat for the two year old. (unless someone has one they want to donate). Go to: http://helpmarilyn.stegic.net/ and help us out. My porch is still available for people to drop things off. Marilyn can still use clothes for the kids and we still don't have winter jackets or boots. Nokomis Shoes (disclaimer - my brother owns it) donated little suede slippers lined with sheepskin for all the kids and winter hats. They looked so darling running around the house in those slippers and hats with a diaper of underoos. It's not too late to help out.
