At the risk of prolonging a discussion that probably should be laid to rest,
I would just like to respond to a recent post regarding Comm. Vivian Mason.
I have to just say that I disagree with the previous author's conclusions
regarding Vivian.
Previous Post:
"Mr. Johnson is right that I do not share his obsession with attending
every Board meeting, especially since my retirement in 2000, after
serving twenty years as a Commissioner. What he seems to forget is that
I spent my last six years on the Board with Vivian Mason. In my
experience, I found her to be an obstructionist, whom often voted
against the person, rather than on the issue. Maybe, you should ask John
Erwin, which Commissioner threatened his political future because he
supported Jon Gurban for Superintendent. I can practically guarantee, Vivian
Mason, will never vote for one of his ideas again."
I have often agreed with Comm. Mason's vote on many issues. However, we
recently disagreed on the issue of the Superintendent appointment and the
budget.
My experience with Comm. Mason has been very different than the author of
the previous post. Specifically, I have found that Comm. Mason has gone
above and beyond her responsibilities in trying to get very important
questions answered from staff that has been helpful to the entire Board and
the public. I have very much appreciated her efforts. In addition,
although we have disagreed at times, I consistently find that Vivian is more
than willing to talk and work together regardless of periodic differences in
voting.
Sincerely,
John Erwin
MPRB Comm. At-Large
