City Council Candidate Offers Vital, Reasoned Approach for Future of City--
Independent Contender to Focus on Livability by Ensuring Basic Services and
Improving City Finances

Minneapolis On New Years Eve, Michael Hohmann, a long-time civic volunteer
and community activist, will formally announce his candidacy for the 13th
ward city council race in southwest Minneapolis. Hohmann, a resident of
Linden Hills neighborhood for 25 years, will run as an independent, with no
party or organizational endorsements.

Hohmanns focus is on issues of livability and financial stability for the
city. Priorities are to ensure levels of basic city services (fire and
police) and infrastructure (roads, sewer and water), to improve the
financial outlook (pension fund deficits) and to curb spending (development
subsidies).

What I offer is a common-sense and affordable approach to living, working
and raising a family in Minneapolis, stated Hohmann, My candidacy
spotlights issues of vital, long term importance to our city. A campaign
committee is in the process of being formed and additional information,
including a web site link will be announced in January.

A consultant to individuals and small businesses in the areas of business
planning, marketing and finance; an instructor and published writer and
outdoors photographer, Hohmann has worked in the private sector for over 20
years. He serves as Vice-President of the Minneapolis Planning Commission
and as a member of the Southwest Community Education Advisory Council.
Previously, he was honored for his volunteer work with the Minneapolis
Neighborhood Revitalization Program and the Minneapolis Public Schools. He
is a graduate of the University of Minnesota in environmental planning, with
a MBA from the University of St. Thomas. In 2001, Hohmann ran unsuccessfully
as a citywide candidate for the Minneapolis Library Board. Hohmann is
