Goshdarnit, David. She's onto us media types! And I suppose this
excerpt from a Strib story in April,1998 (when Arne indeed was governor)
that backs up what you said makes this a full fledged media conspiracy:

"In the recently ended legislative session, the state approved
the prepayment of $87 million in Minneapolis debt, which will enable
the city to issue new bonds to pay for the $175 million [Convention
Center] expansion. Preliminary planning has been underway for months,
and construction is expected to begin next spring."

The bonds for this appropriation weren't actually sold until October,
2001, and the city anticipated actually receiving the proceeds in 2003.
But it came from the 1998 Legislature.

According to this city report (http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/financial-reports/cafr2002/MDA4.pdf - see page 9) the proceeds were booked in 2002.

Therefore, it wasn't "last year" and Tim Pawlenty wasn't governor (he was inaugurated in January 2003) as the original post claimed.

Dialing way back to the beginning of this, I stand by my (and the Journal's) original assertion that Mpls is a net tax contributor to the state - we pay more than we get back. I also stand by the earlier post that the state's paid nothing for the new Convention Center until this contribution, and even then, its 20 percent overall support is low by Minnesota and U.S. standards.

Now its time to go find misinformation spread by government - rather than citizens!
