I use a lawn service. The company works as a two-man crew. One operates a giant lawnmower, which gets the front and back yard done in about 10 minutes, while the other uses a weedwacker to do the edging. Once these two chores are finished, one man puts equipment away while the other uses a leaf blower to clean up the sidewalks. It is all extrememly efficient, and takes a total of about 15 minutes to completely groom my front and back yards, pack up and move on. I've watched their mechanical precision in wonderment on more than one occasion. For them, the leafblower is an essential time-saving tool. Time is money. I completely oppose any effort to ban their use in Minneapolis. Why not lawnmowers, if leaf-blowers are to be banned? They use the same technology, and make the same noise. Both are technically unnessarry, but are time and effort saving modern conveniances. Would you ask a carpenter to give up his power saws? After all, he can use a hand-saw and achieve the same results. Taking a tool away from a professional (or a homeowner who likes to do it himself) is unconsionable. Why this desire to turn back progress? I thought Minneapolis was a "progressive" town. Sounds more regressive to me these days.
