Michael Thompson Writes:

What I mean is, have you sent in a check or checks proving that you are truly "happy to pay" for a better Minnesota? I'm not talking about your Minnesota tax filing. I'm talking about a check say every quarter or so (or even one, for that matter) that proves that you are "happy to pay for a better Minnesota." If you haven't, you are a hypocrite and merely someone who puts trendy signs in his yard and lacks any ability to back words with actions.

"Happy to Pay for a Better Minnesota" sings are trendy (were trendy), and are Minnesota kitschy-cute, but they're really without substance if those who post them don't send in money showing they're "happy to pay."

Dennis Plante Responds:

I would disargee. Making a public statement (by say, having a yard sign) sometimes is as important as the action itself. It gets people thinking about their own personal beliefs on an issue that may have otherwise escaped them. It is also important to point-out that, under the current adminsitration, I would be somewhat skeptical as to how a benevolent contribution I might make would be put to use... It probably would not end-up achieving the goal of a "better Minnesota". But, that's just my personal view...

I've been to an awfull lot of social gatherings and seen literally hundreds of yard signs where personal beliefs by individuals were made public. The overwhelming majority of these individuals do NOT put their money where their mouth is. I do not however, consider them to be hypocrites...
