In my opinion, the Park Board should be there to provide green space to residents, but shouldn't be building playing fields for whatever sport is currently in fashion. But on this List, it seems that most people have a
much more expansive view of what the Board should be doing. Is it their responsibility to build up the supply of playing fields for whatever demand is out there?

My addition:

I believe Mr. Anderson is right on the mark with: "Is it their [Park Board's] responsibility to build up the supply of playing fields for whatever demand is out there?" (i.e., StarTrib article reported recently that Minneapolis to spend $200,000. to build 2-3 skate board ramps in Minneapolis city parks. I have read many articles of youth in many other cities having raised their own monies to get their skate parks built (generally a safe distance from homes). I've also read the articles describing the numerous problems associated with having outdoor skate board parks in close proximity to homes. Something about the boarders not caring if they kept residents awake all night (the continuous slamming of boards against the cement and wooden ramps). I sure hope the people at city hall have done their homework on this one.
