List, Comments made by a Mayoral candidate about public schools, parks, libraries, came as a pleasant surprise. Whether or not a Mayor can wield power over a state financed (?) entity is immaterial...but surely the citizenry of Minneapolis wants a Mayor who realizes the value of education and it's importance to the city's welfare. I remember making a call about the library and being told.. his hands were tied. I believed it...how stupid of me! The Mayor's hands are not tied...he can hire and fire. That is a very strong control mechanism to those with mortgages! He appoints a board member where charter states he is to be the member on the board..hands are tied?! He has great influence over the operation of the city. I have a laundry list for the past ..elms, pensions, library money, Walker, MFD/MPD, developers, early retirement etc. Positives... good PR for the city, very visual and positive, airport...etc. RT has done a fairly good job..he came in at a bad time... how can any of us really judge the amount of work he has done?
However...I lean towards Peter! The year has just begun and it should be interesting with two strong candidates... One thing that I do know...Diane Hofstede, running for City Council in District 3 would make a great council member. Watching her work within the Library Board gave me a great deal of respect for her. She took the time to come to the Nokomis fundraisers and even ate our Chili! (So did Peter) She has worked hard to keep all libraries open and has been a strong voice for equality and fiscal responsibility. Diane has innovative ideas, she is knowledgeable, she has been generous with her time, her self, her money, and I truly believe she would be an asset to the whole Minneapolis Community...not just lucky District 3....when she wins! Good luck...Diane! Dorie Rae Gallagher Nokomis...if I'm concerned about the war do I need to become a soldier,...if I'm concerned about safety do I need to become a police officer... so if one is concerned about schools..do they really need to be on the school board?!!
