But for some reason tonight this thread reminds me of the past and the future.
Each development phase brings its own caldron.
30 years ago people dreamed of the LRT coming to town - it took that long.
30 years ago people dreamed of cleaning up Franklin Avenue.
15 years ago people started talking about what to do if and when Sears leaves?
25 years ago KMART got put up to block off a neighborhood and so it goes on and on.
Now as they tried to sell us LRT coming to town we were told it will generate development along the corridor and into the neighborhoods - and look folks that is exactly what it is doing. You are surprised?
The Upper Terminal Harbor will be something else someday - it' s all just a matter of time.
Remember the hobo days on the River and now look at the million dollar homes.
Before Heritage Park.
And Bassett's Creek before anyone cared.
Following Seattle - a coffee shop on every corner.
It goes on and on..
Eventually the Flour Mills will go and our grandchildren will sit around and figure out what was happening 25-30 years ago and what were they thinking then that made them do this.
So the point...
we will continually ask and face these dilemmas in each 20-30 year cycle. The question is will we learn any lessons from the last time around and will we improve, improve and improve upon the retreaded wheel.
