I have responded to each candidate (Vreeland and Stone) off line. The issues I
raise
are not easy to solve but do need park commissioners attention. I hope they
will take the time to review the problems.

The criticism I have is that the difficult issues seem to lost in the rhetoric
of the
Neiman Fields, speaking time at the board, etc. Being a Park Commissioner is
larger
than just representing a faction.

Charter school issue seems to be the domination of Minneapolis Public Schools
of Park
and Recreation facilities by contract such as Matthews Park. This issue is
difficult to
resolve. Charter and alternative schools come in second for the use of Park
and Recreation facilities.

One of the problems is the YWCA which has NRP and state funds along with
Minneapolis Public schools is under the control of MPS. The School Board
refuses to allow anyone to use the gym facility during the day despite the
facility not being totally used.

The other issue is the School Patrol of the Park police. MPS funds this but
does with a property tax levy but does not include charter and alternative
programs. Grants might be available but the Park Police School Patrol and the
Park Board need to be positive in the application. MTS currently contracts
with the part time police to provide some service. The 3rd precinct response
time is fairly good.
