Dyna described a program that she had difficulty hearing. The archive is here:

Scroll down to the Womanist Power Authority - and you can listen for yourself. I encourage you to do so.

None the less despite the fundy jamming I caught most of the show- it was good to hear Eva fess up to still being a Republican

Dyna misrepresents me here. I did not "fess up" to being a Republican. I'm proud to be a Republican.

Dyna: and her hilarious attempts to paint Karen Clark, Neva Walker, and other DFLers as anti-gay.

I never attempted to paint Karen Clark, Neva Walker and Peter McLaughlin as anti-gay. I was asking why they supported funding an anti-gay group. And when groups support the Bachmann amendment, I consider them anti-gay. What was interesting is that Matthea when she posted seemed to defend funding UV even if they had were supporting the Bachmann amendment politically. I - not Matthea - forwarded the information about UV distancing themselves from Midwest Chaplains - and stating that the Midwest Chaplains had listed them on their prayer proclamation in error. I also consider Art Erickson anti-gay for a number of other reasons which I've gone into on this list before.

Dyna: Former Stonewall DFL board members Trish Campbell and host Matthea Little-Smith served notice that SDFL and the gay community in general best get some diversity quick if they want to have any cred in minority communities.

EY: What gay community? Which gay groups? I've been involved with Log Cabin Republicans for about 8 years - and we don't attract many - it's a tough sell - but we have regularly attracted racial minorities to our meetings. I also go to HRC first Thursday events, and I regularly see minority gays at those events. This show talked about racism in the gay community. It did not talk about anti-gay animus in the black churches. That is also a major issue. It's that attitude the groups like the Minnesota Family Council are active trying to exploit. Bob Battle is the poster boy for this - but there are some others that the MFC likes to trot out. During the discussion last night, Matthea claimed that gays don't tend to get upset when racist groups get public funding, but do get upset by anti-gay groups getting public funding. She gave no examples of this - and I would challenge her to give some specific examples.

DS: And Representative Neva Walker neatly shot down and disposed of Eva's conspiracy theories!

EY: Specific examples Dyna? Neva said that I raised some reasonable concerns about whether UV can be respectful of children with different religious views than them. She also said that it was fair to ask Urban Ventures and the CP Center to hold a joint Press Conference in the Capitol to state for the record that Midwest Chaplains - and Minnesota for Marriage (which appears to be a second name for the Minnesota Family Council) have misrepresented them, when they claimed Colin Powell Center and UV endorsement for the Prayer Proclamation for the Bachmann amendment. Neva didn't dispute the statements I made. She explained why she supported the Colin Powell Center.

Trish Campbell knew nothing about this issue before she came on, so she was commenting from ignorance.

My post a few days back asked:

Now why is it that Rep. Neva Walker has been working so hard to get the Urban Ventures bonding funding?

Peter McLaughlin has been a major pusher of funding for this organization. I'd like to hear if he still thinks this group should get public funding.

Matthea then responded:

And your analyses is actually TWO issues. I believe they need to be separated.

<snip>

Art as with many other ministers, unfortunately, are vocally against Gay Marriage. This Gay Marriage issue should not get into the way of insuring that our children in South Minneapolis have the same access to activities that are accessible to children in other parts of the City. Thus TWO issues, Gay Marriage and Children's access to services in South Minneapolis.

<snip>

The issue is Human Rights and Gay Marriage, not Urban Ventures and the Colin Powell Center. Eva, please separate them. Taking the program away from the children is not going to get us our Human Rights. It won't do a thing but hurt our children that are seriously suffering right now.

EY: I did not link these issues. Instead I took Midwest Chaplains at their word, when they said that the Colin Powell Center and Urban Ventures endorsed their prey-in for the Bachmann amendment. I pointed this out during the show yesterday, and both Neva and Matthea acknowledged this point.

My original post on March 16 exposed that Urban Ventures and the Colin Powell Center had endorsed a prayer for the Bachmann Amendment. I did not link the issues. I posted about this on this list because I'd gotten a tip from Andy from Eleventh Avenue South. Here's the image as it was when I downloaded it from the Midwest Chaplains website on March 17.

The page is linked from the Minnesota for Marriage website:

http://www.minnesotaformarriage.org/ss/live/index.php?sid=64&action=getnews&niid=14&pid=253&cid=5

Minnesota for Marriage is listed as an "assumed" name with the Secretary of State. The address is the same as the Minnesota Family Council.

From the site:

A Day of Prayer and Fasting for Marriage

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005 has been declared a day of prayer and fasting for marriage. Churches across the state are being asked to sponsor a one-hour vigil for marriage to support awareness, activation and intercession on behalf of the institution of marriage. The recommended format is as follows:
* Opening Prayer (2 minutes)
* Pastor Statement (5 - 10 minutes)
* "Battle for Marriage in Minnesota" Video (30 minutes)
* Prayer Intercession (15 - 20 minutes) Closing (3 minutes)
Following the vigil, we urge you to circulate the Minnesota Marriage Protection Petition for people to sign. Return completed petition to Minnesota For Marriage at 2855 Anthony Lane South, Suite 150 Minneapolis, MN 55418.

The Prayer Ministries Proclamation on this page links to the Midwest Chaplains Prayer Proclamation - and that's what the Colin Powell Center and Urban Ventures apparently endorsed - and now they are denying this - and have said a "retraction is forthcoming". So far, the Midwest Chaplains site has removed the name of the Colin Powell Center and Urban Ventures from the Prayer Proclamation. This is hardly a retraction. As I said earlier, I challenge UV and the Colin Powell Center to hold a press conference to expose this. If their name has been misused, possibly other non-profits that have endorsed the Prayer Proclaimation for the Bachmann Amendment have also been misrepresented.

The next day, Duane Coleman, the lobbyist for Urban Ventures - and the Development Director for the Colin Powell Center sent an email to the conference committee on the Bonding Bill saying that as a 501c3, neither the CP Center nor Urban Ventures takes positions on political issues. Shortly after that, Art Erickson sent a copy of that email to me.

Interestingly enough Midwest Chaplains is listed as a 501c3 non-profit. It seems the main function is to pray at the capitol publically for various political causes - so is 501c3 appropriate legal classification for them?
