There is an article in this week's Nation by Katha Pollit (a fabulous writer) on the subject of females as columnists at the NYTimes and Wash.Post. (Available at your local library.)
However, surely there must be a conservative thinker out there the Strib could have found. Kersten is the most lack-logic, allegedly political, writer in the TC. Every time she writes I find myself going nuts at her lack of good information and logic.

The Star Tribune has named conservative Katherine Kersten as a Metro columnist. Kersten will write two columns a week beginning May 1. From the Poynter-Romenesko website: "I want to enhance the paper's capacity to speak to a broad community, to all the people of this state." Here is the link to the post: http://poynter.org/forum/view_post.asp?id=9102

On a related note, here is a column from today's San Francisco Chronicle regarding a current debate in the journalism community on lack of female voices on the op-ed pages.

"Cindy Rodriguez of the Denver Post agreed with [Susan] Estrich and referred to the anachronistic 'formula' in which papers see one woman and one minority columnist as a recipe for diversity." Here is the link to the rest of the Chronicle column: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/03/22/EDGBPBQDPC1.DTL

Minneapolis link on the related note: I believe the Rodriguez Formula for the Star Tribune would be slightly off with Kersten, Syl Jones and C.J.
