Three list members had four of the five symbols on the city flag correct: Mike
Thompson, Tom Taylor and Paul Lohmann. All missed the carpenter's square
imposed over the cogged wheel, representing labor and industry. Jack Jorgensen
Sr., the longtime Teamster leader and short-time 13th Ward council member who
co-sponsored the flag adoption resolution in 1955, must be rolling over in his
grave!
The other three symbols: a building symbolizing education and the arts; a
pilot wheel symbolizing our lakes and rivers; and a microscope symbolizing
research, skilled craftsmanship and progress.
The list doesn't take attachments but I'd be glad to e-mail offlist to anyone
who wants it an illustration of the flag and its history, supplied by Vaman Pai
of the city communication office. He reports that it will be posted sometime
this month on the city web site.
