I do not have a problem with MCTC per se, however, I am concerned that  
someone on this list cited a statistic that students that transfer in from a 
two  
year community college are less likely to get a degree from the U than  
students who start at General College. If this is true, we need to know why. I  
did 
have a relative who thought that MCTC was a better fit for minority students  
because it is populated by many minority students and many immigrants who are  
working hard to get ahead. (He said, since many MCTC students work, the 
partying  was kept to a minimum.)  I do not know the minority ratio at General  
College, all I know is that my relative felt more comfortable at MCTC after  
taking some courses at GC. 
 
But getting back to the land grant-taxpayer supported issue, I want to make  
sure MCTC is adequately funded and that the city of Minneapolis is not  
burdened by having its college take a surrogate general college role.
