Micheal Atherton Writes:

This counterargument works only if all property owners challenge their assessments. If some fraction do not then my theory holds. Businesses make "billing" errors all the time; it's a time honored strategy.

Dennis Plante Responds:

Well, having worked as a purchasing manager for roughly 9 years, I can tell you that I have challenged numerous invoices and had "billing errors" reduced/eliminated.

I think that without exception, my success in doing so was determined by my ability to prove that the amount I was being billed was incorrect. Not by calling-up all the other customers of the company submitting the invoicing and getting them to contest the charges as well.

Michael Atherton Writes:

I think that the most important question is the relationship between the revenue and debt curves. Do you have an answer?

Dennis Plante Responds:

I will wait with eager anticipation to hear your explanantion on this Michael. My Take? I would guess that it somehow has a correlation to the reduction in state aid the City has experienced the last few years.

I have always been left scratching my head as to where my tax dollars go when a Replublcan takes office. My taxation rate seems to remain the same at the level which they control. Yet, it seems I always end-up paying a higher tax rate at a "lower-level" to make-up the "cuts" they deem necessary.

On another subject. Are the MPD traffic-control squads parked on I-94 a cooperative effort with the state & county? Or, do we now have three enforcement agencies competing for the same traffic volation revenues?
