Ed Kohler States: A billionaire who owns a bank probably has excellent credit, and would build a stadium himself IF IT WAS A GOOD INVESTMENT.
My response: Although I agree with Ed that better numbers and more information are warranted (they may be out there but I haven't seen them), this particular question has a flawed premise in that it may be a good investment, just not one that Mr. Pohlad will capitalize on. It could (or it may not) be a good investment for the City or the County or the State or the Warehouse District, and all of their bottom-lines and health and well being may greatly prosper from this investment, and that may not make a lick of a difference to Mr Pohlad. In fact, Ed's point that Pohlad became a billionaire investor works against the point I quoted above...it is exactly because Mr Pohlad is such a savvy money maker that he will disregard the worth of an investment if that worth does not translate to his pockets. So, if this investment does provide returns to the City/State/area, and I know some people think it does so beyond the option to go to a ball game, I would like to be educated on what that is and how it's measured. Until I hear the evidence I am personally inclined against it, but hey, I am open to being educated. I noticed a McLaughlin amendment that provides for excess tax revenue to go for $2 million to youth programs and sports and also $2 million to increase library hours. That is good, and I'd like to see the evidence supporting hundreds of millions going towards a ball park instead of things like that.
