I agree that there should be two conventions.

I, personally, will not forget that RT deserted the convention without any regard to the people who worked very hard to get endorsed for the "boards" -- many of whom wanted to serve their community so much that they endured the DFL BS to do it. Most of the "board" candidates did not have professional handlers or fancy ad campaigns. I saw none of them with headsets. Most of them wrote, created and copied their own campaign materials.

And, he also undermined those of us who spent the whole day there to endorse those candidates -- those of us who spent time researching and talking to candidates so that we could make good choices for our parks and libraries -- both of which are in crisis. After I sat on the bleechers all day, RT and his campaign denied me my right to vote and to endorse.

I was on the fence before, but not any more. Sorry RT, you lost my vote this year. A "man of the people" actually has to think about how his actions as a leader will affect others and the community as a whole.

I know that having a convention that ends up holding people captive for over 12 hours is seriously flawed. It does not encourage participation and I have heard from more than one person who attended for their first time that they definitely won't be back.

I am thinking it may shrink the time dramatically if there could be two endorsing conventions. One to endorse the "board" candidates and the second to endorse the mayoral candidates. Placing them both on the same day strings this process out way way too long and quite frankly did a dis-service to the "board" candidates. On Saturday, there were board candidates who may have been endorsed had R.T. and his delegate base not left the convention. They shouldn't have had to suffer because of mayoral posturing.

The mayoral endorsement took center stage and the rest just seemed like filler. That shouldn't be the case. Waiting to do the district park board endorsements until late in the evening after people had already been there 12 hours was horrible. People were so tired by then and those of us in the bleachers had such sore backs that hardly anyone stayed to do it. These board positions deserve a great deal more attention.
