Highlights from the House committee on the Stadium last evening...hopefully
this is a Minneapolis issue..

A refendum admendment lost by one vote..
Out of county reps want this passed.. the question was brought up, a referendum
on gas tax, gay marriage rights, sewers, etc. but not on the stadium.
Neal Peterson of Bloomington feels this will be a boom to the 494 area. Rep
from Brooklyn Center was a strong voice for it...whatever her reason might
be...and the Rep from Moorhead was also very vocal in the passage.

It was brought up that the Mall was bringing in the most revenue for the
county...not true... Minneapolis pays 35% of the counties taxes, Bloomington,
which includes the mall pays 12%, Edina, and other cities pay about 5%
according to Rep Lenczewski.

The Ball Park Commission needs to be from Hennepin except for one member. Non
elected bodies can not condemn property but otherwise the wording
of the bill is such that they have full control over everything including
strikes by labor. The wording of the bill is unbelievably controlling, ridgid
with total
disregard for the populace of the county.

There will be a transfer of land without payment...there are Federal rights
that will want fair market value taken out...fair market value for the
government
and condemnation for the public which will come from the city?!!

Rep.Lenczewski from Bloomington fought hard to bring home the fact that by law
1999, the citizens have a right to vote. About 5-6 Reps brought up admendments
that tried to bring some fairness to the citizens of Henn, but to no avail.
One brought up that the owner bring 50% to the table considering that with
naming rights,
ticket sales etc. etc....his 125 million was a drop in the bucket..there really
seemed to be some concern for us but then there were the others!

The Rep from Chisholm brought forth the bill .It has not passed out of that
committee yet but will then go to taxation. If we spend money on a special
session to pass
a stadium bill when other more important issues are not being looked
at....democracy or control by wealth?
