Booker Hodges:
DFL for example, Rep. Ellison, Neva Walker, even Council
Member Samuels, the black people running over in the eighth ward City
Council, why would you need this party to run in your own neighborhood when
you the majority.
Mr. Hodges is mistaken. The changes in the 8th ward have hugely altered the demographics of the ward. Immigration has also changed the demographics of the ward. With the redistricting, African Americans lost the power base they had gained over the past 20 or so years in the 8th ward. The 8th was also forced to cede its economic power base in losing all of West Phillips where the hospitals, Sears, and once Honeywell--now Wells Fargo--dominate.

African Americans do not hold a majority in the 8th, but people of color do. There are no enduring alliances between the African Americans in the ward and any of the other groups--American Indians, Somalis, Hmong, Tibetan, Latinos, Chicanos, and others. I am unaware of any overtures being made from African Americans to one group to another, but if they have been made, it has been done on a small scale. So for Mr. Hodges to assume that Neva Walker, Jeff Hayden, Titi Bediako, Sandra Miller, or Zach Metoyer could win office with only the African American vote is a fatal mistake.

You don't need this party, people, to unite people you
have to understand and get in the right mindset.
Well, yes indeed, you do, Mr. Hodges.
