Is there anyone with the authority to inform the Minneapolis Park Police
that they do not have the authority to censor the distribution of political
literature in the parks and that anyone who orders them to do so is ordering
them to do something illegal? The Park Board comes to mind first but since
they are divided four pro Gurban to three anti Gurban, I suppose a judge will
have to tell them. I hope Jason Stone is successful in his suit and that the
Minneapolis Park Board, the Park Police and Gurban have to pay through the nose!
Meanwhile those of us who have a little extra time should consider a little
civil disobedience by distributing leaflets critical of Gurban's action at any
meeting on Park Board land where Gurban is likely to be. It would not really
be civil disobedience since the law gives us the right to political expression
in the parks and elsewhere but, if people are going to try to suppress freedom
of expression, we had better come out and exercise that right while we still
have it.
