This one is just a little too easy.
I live in the current 3rd ward, which prior to Don Samuels, had a council
member who (although I'm no fan of Joe Biernat) had a plan to address
environmental issues and economic development, and also led the fight against
the Kondirator. Don is a step down. He doesn't really care about the
northeast part of the third ward, doesn't seem to know what the upper-river
master plan is, and doesn't care about listening to anyone who may have a
slightly different opinion than he does.<<<

Maybe you're fairly new to NE or since you have been an avid Green Party member
and would support your party's ENDORSEE you're probably not aware of the work
Don has done in NE and the support he has garnered from there. Since you live
in Holland, I'd suggest checking with the ED of your neighborhood organization
who has been an avid supporter of Don's and can give you a more historical
perspective. I don't think he would be if Don wasn't doing anything.
And I would like to point out that NJL is your ENDORSEE , not a "Green holding
office" since she is actually not an official member and refuses to become one
until she can "see a party that mirrors who [she is], i.e. more African
Americans"...Which is kind of strange to me, that a party would endorse someone
who refuses to join them or that a candidate who doesn't think the party
reflects her people or has done enough to include her community would accept
their endorsement....maybe I have a different definition, but it doesn't seem
to really be "loving the people", as she states on her lit is necessary to lead
the people, if you have core philosophical differences with a party around its
inclusion or "love of the people", but still will take their endorsment and all
of the perks that come with it....
Don, by the way, doesn't have those core differences and not only garnered your
party's candidate's support in the special election, but also crossed party
lines to endorse Tom Taylor in his bid for the House last year....maybe you
should also talk with Tom about his support from and for Don....unless he's not
Green enough for you?
Can you also provide details of NJL's efforts to reform the Civil Rights
Department? Or how about what she's done to ensure a better standard of living
or bring jobs and business along West Broadway, because I'm not aware of a
single business that she recruited or employment opportunity she created.
You don't accomplish things simply by getting a title or chairing a commission,
you have to actually go out and work. You have to be out in the community,
bringing people in, bringing attention and resources, not merely claiming
credit for things that come to fruition on your watch.
This isn't about Greens having a right to hold office (remember she's not
actually a Green Party member) or who someone can unseat (2001 was 4 years ago,
we are in a new election, maybe it's time to stop beating that horse and find a
more recent accomplishment...Don won an upset race too, but he's living in the
now), this is about who is the best person for the job so let's focus on that
issue not the larger beefs you may have with the DFL party. Being a Good CM
does mean you're for everyone, not just the Green Party and certainly not any
sole racial demographic. It takes someone who can speak to and work with
everyone and for my money, that's Don Samuels.
