Maybe you're fairly new to NE or since you have been an avid Green Party member
and would support your party's ENDORSEE you're probably not aware of the work
Don has done in NE and the support he has garnered from there. Since you live
in Holland, I'd suggest checking with the ED of your neighborhood organization
who has been an avid supporter of Don's and can give you a more historical
perspective. I don't think he would be if Don wasn't doing anything.

Well Megan, I'm not actually a member of a neighborhood orginization so I
wouldn't know what the ED thinks of Don Samuels. I know that a lot of
Northeast residents (including Greens) supported him because they saw him as an
improvement over the last guy. My opninion is different. I reluctantly
supported him as well. I wish I hadn't.
I'm just a working class schmoe who scrapes to pay his rent and bills every
month. I'm the sort of guy that most elected officials in this city don't
really give a damn about until election day. Up until sometime last year I got
harrased by cops twice a week for no good reason. I'm a lot like that guy who
was shouted down at that (supposedly open to the public) DFL convention I
didn't know I was unwelcome at.
I'm an OUTSIDER. When I've needed somthing from the council office (help with
taxi licensing, trying to understand housing and zoning codes, trying to help
friends navigate the system when needed) NJL has been there for us.
Don may of done some work with neighborhood groups, but Natalie Johnson-Lee has
enough time for us ordinary folkes, and she probably works with neighborhood
groups too.
As you can see I did focus on some of the larger beefs with the DFL party,
however let's be honest Megan, (and list,) much of this IS ideological, and our
ideogies are often different based on class, economic status and our personal
experiences.
Whatever your reasons, nothing in the world would convince you to support NJL.
Likewise because NJL has helped me personally (and quite a few others I know)
and also because of the bad experiences I've had with rude licensing inspectors
and the Minneapolis Police, nothing in the world would convince me to support
Don Samuels, Robert Lilligren or either of the two leading mayoral candidates.
It's bad enough that I live in a ward where the incumbent CM is unopposed and
no issues are being discussed....I guess Micky Mouse gets yet another vote in
the 1st.
It does seem as though in the 5th, those who support Don Samuels are of more
comfortable economic means...hmmmm...

A blissfully uniformed guy in Holland with little historical perspective!
