Okay, I will give my honest opinion...I was surprised, well, maybe
shocked, when Johnson
gave Belton the position in the first place. SSB had lost the mayoral
position, but husband Steve got a job
paying $80,000+, filling a position *Diversity* which had not been
filled for years. My
memory says 13... but someone might know for sure.
This makes me angry. Belton has always had a career independent of SSB.
Whether fortune smiles on Sharon or not, no one has any business
implying that since SSB lost the election, Steve Belton is somehow
suspect for having taken a job with the school system. With any
reasonable viewpoint we should only have to pay for our own mistakes,
not those of other family members.
The man was a lawyer with one of the pricier law firms for a long time.
He changed jobs. Period. End of story.
Perhaps some of the problems the school system has could have been
avoided if the Diversity position had not been left empty for so long.
To an already successful lawyer, $80,000 is chump change. (My nephew
makes more than that and he's only been out of law school three years.)
Maybe Belton took the job because he genuinely wants to help improve the
situation in our schools. He and SSB have two boys in the school system.
He may even know something about how to deal with diversity..
