Good morning all, This has all side tracked from my original question about excessive pay - at $122,xxx for a 9 month contract per Steve Brandt's article. Significantly too much considering the state of current (and past couple year's) MPS budgets.
Many Mpls and Henn. Cty. Lawyers (not department heads though) work for 1/3 of that on an annual basis. While I don't suggest the Diversity position should be paid $40K/year, there must be a happy medium - say, split the difference. My point here is that I assume there are plenty of qualified people in the city that would love to get their salary doubled to make a difference in MPS. Some might argue that we can't get qualified people if the salaries aren't high enough. I think there are always very qualified people with the skills required and the heart needed to get the job done for less than what MPS currently pays. I am not picking on Mr. Belton, but rather MPS for issuing such contracts. This same opinion applies to the Supe's salary and benefits. $100-$120K/year is a bit closer to what I think we should be paying without buyout clauses. It should be the other way around - if you want to leave the contract early for a better paying Supe job elsewhere, then you owe us the difference. While this isn't practical, it does start some interesting thoughts.
