We clearly have a lot of people in the city who prefer more intensity in land
use (tall buildings) rather than less. Why shouldn't we allow them a place to
live in our city? If not in the neighborhoods that are around downtown, then
where?

I agree with Nick. I love Grant Park. I think it looks beautiful against the
skyline. Especially at night. I love that lighting. Some people seem to think
we shouldn't have high density buildings anywhere. Well, the best way to
increase the tax base is to add density and increase the number of living and
commercial units we have. Since we can't spread out any further and I doubt
that Richfield, Golden Valley or St. Louis Park will allow us to annex them
into the city of Mpls. then our only alternative is to go up. I support high
density residential and think the city can absorb them in many areas of the
city as long as there is a thoughtful plan for the area they are placed in. The
notion that this city should end at 4 stories is just too expensive to
maintain. I for one am looking forward to more people sharing the tax burden.
There are many world class cities that have hi-rises and they are thriving
urban areas. The density has had a positive affect on the city, not a nega
 tive
one. I will take a high rise residential building to a surface parking lot any
day of the week.
