Connie, I grew up on Lake Nokomis and I don't remember ever seeing a tent pitched in any park by my house for a religious revival. I do remember the Jehovah's Witness folks baptizing people in Lake Nokomis. But for the most part, I think many of the Christian evangelist types must think that all the sinners live in inner-city neighborhoods because that is where most of the poor people, differently abled people, mentally or behavioral challenged people and people of color live. Of course mixed in with them are the drug dealers, drug addicts and prostitutes. Guess they must think it is us that need the Lords guidance the most. People who live in neighborhoods that consist primarily of white homeowners are mostly self-sufficient and can pay for the services they require so that must somehow translate into the minds of the evangelists that it is neighborhoods like ours that need the religious revivals. Every week I have people from some religious group knocking on my door wanting to preach to me or pray with me. I don't remember anyone knocking on my door out by Lake Nokomis. I also see street preachers on the street over here pretty regularly. I also don't recall seeing people like that standing on the corner in my old neighborhood. So from one sinner to another, alleluia and amen sister! Barb Lickness Whittier
