If it were me I would buy rubbermaid tubs which roughly approximate the shape of city recycling containers but are larger, and you can buy as many as you need. Drill some holes in the bottom so they drain water, I would say.
On that note, here's an weird recycling thing that I need help figuring out: After living my (almost) entire life in Minneapolis and using those green/blue rectangular recycling bins in which you are supposed to place bags of separated stuff, I get a place in Powderhorn which has this alien-looking white dumpster for "co-mingled" recycling. All of the neighbors (next door, across the alley) have the regular ones. What the heck? Is the "trash lady" out there anywhere? It's kind of gross, because of course the bin smells from all these random cans and bottles tossed in willy-nilly, and the poor recycling guys have to fish stuff out by hand, one at a time. (I've seen them do it.) Anybody know what the deal is with that? I could put rubbermaid bins myself, but I have a feeling that as long as the co-mingle dumpster is there it will be hard to re-train my tenants into separated paper bags of stuff...
