Thatcher Imboden and his sister Cedar have written a fine book on the history of Uptown Minneapolis. It won a Heritage Preservation Award this year for community education:
http://europeforvisitors.com/uptown/ I was thinking about the book and more about Lake Street and what from the past may be discovered as the digging progresses ...as I was browsing old photos in the Minnesota Historical Society's database... That red brownstone where 'It's Greek to Me... is now and where the Art Car Parade will pass on Lake and Lyndale on Saturday was there in 1906...! In my complaints about missing services to make life less difficult for Lake Street and near residents.... I neglected to mention that In the Heart of the Beast theater just completed a reprise of their "Lake Street Excavations" performance...which must have been a challenge in the heat...even as it was positive and community affirming... http://www.heartofthebeasttheatre.org/mainstage/lakestreet/ Any list members participate in this?
