An interesting Sunday PIONEER PRESS story about how the long-term Lake of
the Isles restoration project has been affected by the lack of legislative
funds. "These days, it seems Lake of the Isles' name defies its condition. The
one-time jewel atop a string of Minneapolis lakes that draws millions of
visitors every year is less lake, more swamp. In stark contrast to the
manicured
mansions that surround the lake south of downtown Minneapolis, a mess of algae
and milfoil, eroded shoreline, potholed walking paths, mounds of dirt, wire
fencing and overgrown thistle litter the landscape."

The lake has inherent problems because it is man-made and only 30 feet deep.
We are trying to get more funding but it's a tough sell at the legislature.

Here is the rest of the story. I believe registration is required.
