In commenting on the Mayor's proposed budget, Vanessa Freeman, who along
with Marnie Wells has done great work on public health issues for the
city & co-chairs the Public Health Advisory Committee, recently added a
thanks to me as well as to Councilmembers Natalie Johnson Lee and Dean
Zimmermann and any other person on the council who has worked on behalf
of public health funding.

Thanks right back to you Vanessa & to whoever prompted you to add me to
the list(Marnie?)
I'd also like to specifically thank Councilmembers Robert Lilligren, Dan
Niziolek, Don Samuels and Gary Schiff, all of whom also joined in a
resolution (Resolution 2005R-172) that the council passed "That the City
Council work with the Mayor's office to eliminate the projected cuts to
the Department of Health and Family Support in 2006." Finally, great
thanks are due to the Mayor for stepping up to the plate on this issue
and restoring the funding to the Department in his proposed budget for
2006.

It will be a good day for the health and welfare of the residents of
this city, especially our children, families and the vulnerable among
us, if the budget is adopted with this funding intact. I hope that many
more of our colleagues will join in making that happen.
