As a candidate for the City Council in Ward 2, I was approached by a group that would like to send out a questionnaire to all candidates for the Minneapolis City Council and the Mayor's race. They were collecting individual candidate's campaign mailing addresses and asked me if I knew of a single source of this information. I told them that I did not know if such a list currently existed but that I would investigate it for them. I know that E-Democracy has a list started but it contains more holes than swiss cheese. Does anyone know of a complete list of candidates and their campaign mailing addresses? If one doesn't exist, would list members be interested in sending me partial information about individual candidates or groups of candidates? I would be interested in compiling a list and then making it available to the general public. As has been previously stated on this forum by Jim Bernstein and others, I think that the City should make the filing information public. And following Jim's lead, my information is:

I agree totally that Filing information should be public. It has always been public at the much maligned Republican Secretary of State's website. It's goofy that the information is supposedly "private".

There are many of us who want to know about the candidates that are running without the DFL label - since the DFL label is a negative for city council and mayoral candidates.

I'd challenge the City DFL leadership to take a public stand in favor of making candidate contact information public.

Kudos to former Republican Jim Bernstein (please come back to the Republican Party, Jim, we need you there) for urging the city to do the right thing.
