Diane Wiley replies: We're talking about a lot of the same people at different stages of life -- I'm willing to bet that 1/2 to 3/4's of those junkies, etc. were kids with mental health problems -- and while they need way more help now, and maybe can't even be helped really, they need the same kind of humane care that the kids do and I doubt it will work in a large institutional setting.
