Thank you CP Lilligren. I said this a couple of months ago, but I could never have said it as well as you did. Members of the STOP program do not live in our community. While they (police officers) do their part during their working hours, it is up to the community to sustain.
The community MUST be EMPOWERED to continue the work after their (police officers) shift is over and after they have been moved to address problems in other parts of the city. Without community input, on solving the problem, crime is simply displaced, making police actions simply appear as a Band-Aid. I think the SAFE Program did just what it was designed to do, it made people feel safe and empowered. It made people feel as if they really had a say in the problem solving tactics in their community. The end result was a sense of pride. Again, I would like to say thank you to CP Lilligren.
