Wizard -- Was the Library Board candidate forum you went to at Hosmer Library? I'm wondering because I was there too, but we seem to have gone to two different places. After a few months of following the Clone Wars by the Ward 8 Council candidates, it was refreshing to hear several people with different ideas. Some of the ideas I heard were Smart with her many ideas for new funding, one guy who wanted to sell naming rights, another person who was pushing technology, one who pointed out all the foreign language books MPL has purchased recently, and another who made some funny anti-incumbent comments.
And of course Hinsdale made his comment that he would stop buying books for a few years if it was necessary to bring back Saturday hours. This was certainly a new suggestion to me. His comment was in response to my question as to what expenses the Board could cut to bring back Saturday hours to all the Minneapolis branches. The rest of the candidates pretty much ducked my question, but Eric came out with a viable idea. I have at least one of my votes on September 13 figured out. Calling your patrons absurd is so affirming of the job the board is there to do. As I said, librarians need not apply.
