The Park Board has very little to do with the Midtown Greenway and the endeavors
of the Greenway Development. This is a Hennepin County Railroad Authoiry
project plus lots of other players except the Park Board.

Annie Young
citywide Park Commissioner

Brandt: See third item below from Commissioner Young's bio page on the Park
Board web site.

New Developments or Initiatives (Year in Review):

*Committed to safe parks, strong neighborhoods and citizen participation.
*Keep on task measures to protect water quality in our lakes and the
environmental restoration of wetlands and prairie still.
*Pursuit of the possibility of a Park Crossing/ land bridge structure at 28th
and Hiawatha, the connection of the lakes and the river by the Midtown Greenway
and river and park development along the Upper North Mississippi.

Comment from Brandt: Moreover, the Greenway was originally promoted by a group
in which then-Park Commissioner George Puzak was prominent. The Park Board
was one of five government partners in Hennepin Community Works, organized in
1994, for which the Midtown Greenway was a signature project. And I believe
that Commissioner Young is one of the community members whose faces are
sculpted onto the 4th Avenue bridge pier adjacent to the Phase 1 of the
Greenway.
