Tom Madden Writes:
That, and they don't guarantee the work. I had the small piece replaced
that runs between the street and main sidewalk. That one little 2'x3' or
3'x3' slab cost significantly more than $100. Worse yet, it cracked the
first year (I don't use salt on my sidewalks) and seems to be getting worse.
I've taken up the corners to put sand underneath to shore it back up just
so they don't come out and replace it again and charge me all over.
Dennis Plante Responds:
Well, I would be surprised if you were to find that the workmanship was not
warranteed for at least two-years. As for the costs - significantly more
than $100. How much more? And what would you expect to get paid if you
were replacing a very small section of sidewalk, such as this?
The contractor that performs this work (under contract with the City) as a
signficant costs associated with mobilizing a crew to tear-up, dispose-off
the old sidewalk, form-up (for pouring) the new sidewalk and clean-up after
the concrete has cured.
If it was less than $200, my feelings are you got a "steal of a deal", if
you were to figure what your ACTUAL cost for DYI.
