The 8th ward city council candidates who attended last nights forum took more
than 2 positions on the smoking ban. For example, I stated that I favor
restrictions on smoking in bars and restaurants but do not support the ban in
its
current form.

I am opposed to making second hand smoke exposure a condition of employment
in any business, including restaurants, bars, and smoke shops.

I am opposed to the current smoking ban only because it is too inflexible and
because it might be overturned in the courts for that reason. The ban does
not allow bar/restaurant owners to make "reasonable accommodations" for indoor
smoking that would not result in the exposures of employees and other patrons
to 2nd hand smoke, such as by allowing smoking in an enclosed room with a
separate ventilation system and negative pressure (smoke would not drift out
into
the rest of the building).
