School busing is taking billions of our educational dollars. School busing is a major contributor to the pollution and congestion of our cities. School busing is a major contributor of greenhouse gases. School busing is causing child obesity and diabetes. School busing is addicting our children to the wheel and making our streets and neighborhoods more perverse and unnatural by putting children in vehicles when we all should be doing more walking and less riding. I'm not asking for complete abolishment of school busing. I'm only asking that we examine where we are and where we are headed and if we are not losing a lot more than we are gaining by allowing a program that was supposed to be a temporary solution to our segregated schools to go on without end. The demographics are changing and in some schools the minority students are fast becoming the majority. Global warming after all will affect our children more than it will affect adults. Don't accuse me of being a racist. I was working for the passage of the 1964 civil rights bill before most of you were born and I live in the inner city on 38th street and not in the lily white neighborhoods that the commissioner and the mayor live in. Still obsessed by solar on our freeways, edible landscapes, stem cell research for meaningful jobs, legal medical marijuana and much more ....from Kingfield. Sincerely, Don Johnson, Candidate for Mayor, 3808 Grand Ave So. Minneapolis, MN 55409 (612) 824 1111 _www.DonJohnsonMayor.org_ (http://www.donjohnsonmayor.org/) REMINDERS: 1. Be civil!
