Ted Wirth ( namesake and park designer like his grandfather) established the Minneapolis Parks Legacy Society. In 2002 the Society accomplished recognition for the Theodore Wirth Home and Administration Building to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

One of the Society's goals is to protect this historic home and take responsibility for accurate interpretation of the historic era of Theodore Wirth that has been identified and recognized by the National Park Service.

The Society has asked the Minneapolis Park Board for permission to create an interpretive learning center within the building - as a service to the public - at no cost to the Park Board.

We hope to see you there!

I saw a number of Minneapolis Issues List members at this event. I very much enjoyed touring the house and learning more about the history of the Parks and the remarkable Wirth family. I encourage the Park Board to make this beautiful building more accessible to the public.

I met Mark Ritchie - who is running for Secretary of State as a DFLer. Ritchie told me that his non-profit - the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy had bid on the use of the Wirth House in 1997 - they had bid $1900.00 per month. The Park Board gave it to Gurban's Park Group for $700.00 per month. What torked Ritchie off the most, was the Park Board didn't even have the courtesy to inform his group that they were going with Gurban's group.
