I have been talking to folks and meeting many people. Here are some comments that I have heard on the Park Board District 3 campaign trail.
Can you help find a place on the upper river for the Urban Boat Builders?- these are the folks that build wooden boats with inner city kids. http://www.urbanboatbuilders.org It would be great if these folks had a permanent home on the river and were included in the Above the Falls Area Plan. As part of the Upper River Planning process for what is called Phase 1, we have talked about a barge tie up for a restaurant or festival entertainment between Plymouth and Broadway- what a great place for a boat building barge. Elm tree stumps- I have logged many miles in my District but I don't think I have seen any stump grinding or evidence of a removed stump. These stumps are breeding grounds for Dutch Elm Disease and folks tell me how many years it takes to get stumps removed. Didn't the MPRB pay lage sums to outsource stump removal? Bathrooms- why do we have playgrounds with locked bathrooms? (From a mom with young kids) East Phillips Park why do people with the most need get the least services? Peavey Park- should we let gangs be the only people that are organizing park activities in this park? West River Road by Franklin Ave. Bridge. How do we get the pot holes and ruts repaired for bike safety? ( I ride a 22mph electric scooter on this road every day- it is in really bad shape even after patching for the marathon.) Can we get running trail surfaces that are less harsh on runners knees and ankles? How can we get better bathrooms at Nokomis? There are safety issues at Brian Coyle- why can't there be more attention paid to the needs of this park? The teenagers feel unsafe. Why doesn't Longfellow have sports activities that are as good as those in Pearl Park? Why don't the Park Police ever get out of their cars and godown to the party spots in the river gorge? ( sand beech and 36th) Isn't the speed limit 25 on the river road- Do Park Police do any enforcement? These are some of the comments about Park issues.
