Eric Mitchell Writes:
A complaint has to be filed.
Augies is a strip bar.
Was it not just a few weeks ago there was a blow-up
when Samuels accused Johnson-Lee's husband of peddling
porn and accepting advertising dollars from that
industry for his magazine?
Hopefully Johnson-Lee returned the Augie's dollars.
Dennis Plante Replies:
It amazes me that nary a hint of a discussion took place on this list
regarding this issue. Is it because no one dares question Johnson-Lee about
the impropriety of accepting inappropriate and potentially illegal campaign
contributions? Is it too hot an issue for everyone to handle because of the
issue of "race"?
What the heck kind of a world is it that we live in anyway? I can well
imagine the "field-day" that proponents of the NJL campaign would have if it
were reported that Councilmember Samuels had accepted a purportedly illegal
campaign "donation" from a strip-club (it would NEVER happen).
He would have been crucified for it... He would have been front-page news
in the Spokesman-Recorder and every pottery class in being offered at
community centers in South Minneapolis Yet, everyone seems to think it is
perfectly fine for his opponent to do so. Whatever happened to being able
to come-out against something that is clearly "wrong"? AND being willing to
accept the consequences of doing so. CM Samuels has been doing so for the
last 3 years in office and STILL is faced with a ridiculous set of
double-standards.
