Hello Minneapolis,
Well, let's add one more to thing to the list that
our Mayor seems to find of no interest which, to date,
includes; Judge Hopper's Mental Health and Criminal
Justice Task Force, effective response to
homelessness,
the environment, NRP, Public Safety, PCRC and the
Federal Mediation process, veterans (and no one better
tell me he has done anything whatsoever here), the
Racial Disparity Initiative...and, let's add in the
Livning Wage Ordinance--Yes, our Mayor was too busy
to attend that hearing as well. What does it take to
get the leader of our City Government's attention?
The Living Wage Ordinance enjoys wide support and
the Council meeting was well attended (including the
leader of the "Old Guard" who is not endorsed by
a plethora of "Old Guard" policy-makers---Peter
Mclaughlin). People need to wake up to this ridiculous
assertion...it still sticks in my craw. I review the
endorsements on RT's website and I find every policy-
maker of long-standing, virtually, while on
Commissioner Mclaughlin's site I find organized labor
of all stripes...I find the people...I think the
epithet "Old Guard" for Mclaughlin is ludicrous.
If I'm a member of the 'Old Guard', I'll sautee my
own boxers and devour them in Government Plaza at
High Noon. Please, wake up and think about who
represents the men and women on the street and who
ignores every major issue to the point of
neglect...then smiles, impishly, and implies that he
is, in all actuality, at the very heart of reform. I
echo an earlier post, "Don't you have to show up to be
an advocate?" RT is an absentee landlord and many
of us at the heart of the City are sick of dismal
stewardship. What is the message we should get when
RT fails to show up for the PCRC review, takes 4
years to deliver a plan on chronic homelessness
(long after cities far less progressive delivered--
Hell, President Bush even took action in 2002!),
fails to support NRP, fails to deliver even a hint
of a clue on Public Safety, fails to take an interest
in vets, fails to support the Living Wage Ordinance.
You have to show up to lead a City of this size...
let's take back our progressive heritage, place a
vote of confidence in the substantive and stop being
bewitched by non-sensical photo-ops based on
chimerical assertions. Enough is enough!
