The Alley newspaper did some excellent coverage of the Peavey Park saga and
the community desire to keep this park safe and open.

We cannot let gangs be the only youth workers in this park.
We cannot turn our backs on the community investment in improving this park.
We cannot abandon all winter programming in the park.
We cannot provide park programming city wide for all those except those who
need it the most.
We cannot expect that someone else will take care of this.

We cannot sell this land without making provisions to keep the gym.

The Park Board has $500,000 in the Innovation fund that was funded in the
2005 budget that has not been spent and millions in its reserve funds. When
the
winds blow down trees there is money to deal with a crisis, when there are
Four Winds there is no money on the table to leverage a solution.

The school board cannot balance its books by turning its back to the special
needs of the community around this park.

Both the Park Board and school Board need to come up with a short term plan
to keep this park safe and open this winter and a long term plan to make sure
that Peavey Park has a gym and programming that serves the needs of the
community.

Thanks,
Scott Vreeland Seward
