Peavey Park is near and dear to me. You heard the Red Nelson story of the70's. There is also the story of the Touchstone Plaza and what was to be done with the American Indian Services old building that was on Franklin, was dilapidated and had to have something done with it. Snyder Drug Store was at that corner - got rid of the Liquor Store - bring in the Plaza. There have also been Listening Circles and there is a schematic design for suggestions of what to do with Peavey. There is an incredible amount of history that goes down when you talk about the land between 24th and Franklin and Chicago and Park Aves. Many of these stories need to be remembered for the sake of history and wisdom to lead us in the right path for the future of this land. Over 200 members of the community want to meet (and have signed a petition) and Indian Leaders are organizing to take action about both East Phillips and Peavey.

It is curious that the "dry runs" which, I guess, are considered a substitute for Committee of the Whole meetings are during the middle of the day when almost all the Board members have jobs. What happened to a staff having flexible time and maybe working some Noon - 8 shifts and meeting with Commissioners at the odd hours between 4 and 8pm on occasion.

Hopefully, new District Commissioner Vreeland and myself ( if re-elected) can help the community uprising that is going to take place about some adequate Park Services in the Phillips community.

For the moment,
Annie Young
citywide Park Commissioner
seeking re-election in ' 05 - Looking forward to serving and getting work done on this issue.

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board did schedule a meeting to

before anyone gets to wondering why I would back this up let me tell
you the whole story.....

I had to work at both of my jobs that day which are at the opposite
ends of Broadway... Crystal and NE. I stopped at the MPRB to pick up
the agenda ( while in transit) to at least be able to post that there
was a meeting. I went to the River Room where it was suppose to take
place, nobody, I asked some of the staff, no commissioners had come so
the staff would just talk amongst themselves. I had to work at 2
places and I got there, my commissioner is RETIRED and this is his job
and he didn't bother to show up. I am willing to give a pass to
commissioners with real jobs but Walt Dziedzic should have been there.
