Let's vote with our dollars. It is the language that most of us understand. Pledge money to KFAI. Reward good behavior. Patronize the businesses that advertise in the Observer, SW Journal, Spokesman-Recorder, etc.

Maybe it is time to start targeting some of the major media in this town with protests when their license renewal comes up--complete with picket lines and promotions of alternate news sources like the Observer and Southwest Journal, assuming it continues its good work with Dave Brauer gone, that is.

Even better would be to have substantive stories in the newspaper and on TV and radio really talking about the issues instead of the 90 second pablum we are treated to before elections in most of the major media outlets. At the
risk of sounding like a crazy person, I do believe that it is in the
interests of the ruling class, the haves, whatever you want to call them, to not let people know what really is at stake, and they control the media. In
my mind, democracy and unfettered capitalism don't go together very well.

Some countries have laws that require voting. Should Minneapolis?
Can Minneapolis legally require voting?

I've never understood why mandatory voting is a good idea. Can someone
explain it to me?

A better way to raise turnout is to make election day a business holiday.
