After magnifying the graphs by at least a factor of ten, I think that the gaps show the real traffic. On the daily graph 10 kbytes per second is equal to 50 pixel, so 1 pixel means 200 bytes per second. This is the lowest traffic you can see on the graph. Check the log file, and compare the values to the values in the graph. Where the 'gaps' are, the traffic should be lower then 200 bytes per second (if I was correct :))) ).
