Say I want to monitor voltage of a battery or the current status from a solar panel which is acting as backup to a device. But neither the battery or solar panel is snmp enabled since its not snmp supported. Can a hardware be built which at one end talks to the battery or solar panel and the other end connects to the network and talks snmp in order to give me health status on the battery and /or solar panel, this way a non-snmp device can be monitored.
I understand this type of a hardware will be unique to the device it will connect to but what I'm looking for is whether something similar to this has been achieved and if so any pointers will be appreciated. That's all :) Regards, /vicky -----Original Message----- From: PAUL WILLIAMSON [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 5:14 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [mrtg] Monitoring non-snmp device(s) You need to be a little more specific. If you are trying to monitor something like the number of users currently logged in to a web site, and it is available from a log file, then you can write a script to get that information and put it into a log file for MRTG to graph. If you are talking about the amount of clothing washed in LBS in a laundromat, it may be a little harder. If you are trying to monitor the number of gallons used in a household, on a weekly basis, you *might* be able to do it. For oddball ideas, check out http://www.icepick.com. The guy is awesome. If so can you point me in the right direction. Any insight will be appreciated.
