The weird thing is that I'm not getting any error messages.  I think I'll
try deleting the rrd files and see what happens.

My configuration is similar to yours and I'm running two separate instances 
of MRTG with  two configuration files, both as scheduled tasks. One of them 
runs every 5 minutes, the other every 1 hour with no problem.
What kind of error are you getting? Did the scheduled task fail to start? 
Are you logging MRTG's activity (by running "perl mrtg 
[config_file] --[logging log_file]") ?
If so, what does the log file say?
