Oh, I also had a problem with event logging. It's probably been fixed by now,
but it caused me to make these changes:

There is an error in the MRTG code somewhere regarding logging to the Windows
Event Log, which caused MRTG errors when I tried to run it. Changed my command
line for testing to this:
perl c:\mrtg\bin\mrtg --logging=c:\mrtg\bin\log\log.txt c:\mrtg\bin\mrtg.cfg".
 (replaced logging=eventlog with logging=path) and it ran. Also had to change
the registry from that listed in the procedure to this:
"AppParameters"="c:\\mrtg\\bin\\mrtg --logging= c:\\mrtg\\log\\log.txt
c:\\mrtg-2.17.1\\bin\\mrtg.cfg"

See the section, HOW TO SETUP MRTG AS A WINDOWS SERVICE, in
http://oss.oetiker.ch/mrtg/doc/mrtg-nt-guide.en.html. I've used it for years
and it works great. The "run as daemon" is confusing for windows, since you
also have to create a service as described above.

Ah, you are running on Windows. Hopefully someone else on this list
understands windows servers - I haven't managed a windows server this
millennium...

But I recall there were a couple of daemon tools used to run mrtg -
fireDaemon was popular about 8 years ago. But I don't know much more about
it than a name..
