It still sounds to me like the record hasn't been saved.  It wouldn't hurt
to add the line of code that I suggested below to the click event of the
button just before opening the second form.  A Requery of the Subform when
you save and close the record in the other form should get it to display on
the main form.

The button to open the subform(detail) is on the tab itself.  On the
mainform I have an field called description that is required so I
have an afterupdate event which saves the record.
